Come Play. Come Stay.
Pottsboro was founded in
1878 by A.J. Potts as a railroad town. In 1941 a military base,
Perrin Field, was constructed south of town and 1944, the Red River
was dammed forming Lake Texoma which serves as a cornerstone of
Pottsboro. The Pottsboro area was the Texas starting
point for the historic Shawnee-Preston Trail which served as a
major cattle trail and eventually developed into Preston Road which
served as a primary road from Indian Territory (present day
Oklahoma) to Dallas. Today Pottsboro offers small town ambiance
with the excitement and facilities that serves our Lake Texoma
visitors.
The Pottsboro Visitor Center is open Tuesday-Friday from 10:00
a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to serve the needs of visitors to the area. The
center offers tourist information on hotels, fishing guides,
restaurants, golf, museums and other activities in the community.
The Pottsboro Visitor Center is located at 615 Highway 120 East,

Hagerman Wildlife Refuge
The Refuge was established in 1946 as an
overlay of a portion of the Big Mineral arm of Lake Texoma.
Consisting of about 12,000 acres, the Refuge provides a variety of
habitats for birds and wildlife. Canada, snow, white-fronted, and
Ross' geese along with pintail, mallard, gadwall and other ducks
use refuge impoundments and fields as stop-over and wintering
grounds. White pelicans by the thousands can be seen here during
their spring and fall migrations. Deer, turkeys, bobcats, hawks,
and songbirds are abundant. Many recreational opportunities are
offered at the Refuge. For more information call 903.786.2826.
